Michelle McKay is seen by many as Canada’s go-to ‘paranormal girl’. She was the first female paranormal investigator to host a national television show in Canada, and the first female Canadian paranormal investigator to host a television series in the USA. She has been a paranormal investigator for over 20 years, specializing in investigating reportedly haunted historical sites. She is also a UFO researcher, following her great-uncle’s UFO legacy.

Her great-uncle was internationally renowned pioneer UFOlogist (UFO investigator), Henry McKay. He was a pioneer in investigating physical traces of UFOs — when a UFO reportedly landed, he was the one they called in to investigate. When he passed away at the age of 80, all of his hundreds of case files were passed down to Michelle. He was the very first Director of MUFON in Canada, and was one of the first modern-day UFOlogists to specialize in investigating physical traces associated with UFO landing sites and “close-range” UFO sightings. He was also an electrical engineer in the Air Force. His files contain UFO cases in the United States, Canada and around the world. His work has been written about in many books, including “The Philadelphia Experiment”. He also coined several terms in UFOlogy. His tribute page on the MUFON website is located here.
Michelle is also a TV host and lead investigator on a television series about ghosts and hauntings, which is no longer filming and is currently in reruns in over 36 countries including Destination America (USA), Discovery I.D. (Canada), A&E Latin America (Bio), and also airs in Denmark, Belgium, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and others.
Michelle travels all over the United States and Canada to conduct investigations in search of all matters of the paranormal including ghosts, hauntings, poltergeists, demons, and UFOs. She also has, along with her great-uncle when he was alive, a special interest in the reported paranormal effects of the Crystal Skulls — made popular by the Indiana Jones movie.
“Back in the day, when I would tell people that I was a paranormal investigator, they would say ‘a para what?’ I would have to explain to them what a paranormal investigator was. My, how things have changed! Nowadays everybody knows what a paranormal investigator is.” – Michelle McKay
In 2002, she founded Cold Spot Paranormal Research™, which investigates ghosts, hauntings, poltergeists and demons. Her interest in ghosts started when she was a child growing up in a haunted house with a poltergeist:
“At 10yrs old I spent most of my days in the library basement reading books about the paranormal, trying to figure out what was going on in my house. Eventually my friends started inviting me to investigate their houses. So off I went to investigate, as best as I could for a 10 year old, and it hasn’t stopped to this day. I’m still here doing this.” – Michelle McKay

Michelle is not the first paranormal investigator in her family, her great-uncle was internationally renowned pioneer UFOlogist, Henry McKay. Not only was he the very first Director of MUFON in Canada, but he also worked on several cases with Dr. J. Allen Hynek (lead astronomy consultant to the U.S. Air Force’s UFO projects including Project Bluebook, and coined the term ‘close encounters’). Henry gave a briefing at a hearing to the “Royal Commission of Electric Power Planning” in regards to UFO related power disturbances. He was on the board of directors for the “North American UFO Federation” (headed by NASA scientist Dr.Richard Haines), and he was an associate of CUFOS (headed by Dr. J. Allen Hynek). He also investigated for NICAP (headed by Major. Donald Keyhoe of the U.S. Marines).
